In July 2016 IMMAFA sent the first Australian team to the World Championships of Amateur Mixed Martial Arts. This event was held over five days at Fight Week in Las Vegas and brought together hundreds of competitors from nearly fifty nations.

The 2017 World Championships are being held in Bahrain during the month of November. This year there will be up to seventy-five nations competing. There are two events that qualify athletes for participation at the Worlds, the first of these events is the Arnold Classic held in Melbourne in March 2017. The second event that contributes to the ranking process is the Continental Open held later in the year.

Priority for registration to the Continental Open will be given to athletes who competed at the Arnold Classic.
